Food Service Sanitation Program
The Illinois Department of Public Health requires that all food service establishments that prepare and serve food will be required to have a certified food service manager on the premises at all times food is being handled. Also, certificate holders must renew their license by attending an approved food safety refresher course.
The Illinois Food Retailers Association is offering both the initial 15-Hour Food Service Sanitation Certificate Course and the Sanitation Certificate Renewal Course in many areas throughout the state.
Cost includes course book, instruction, and exam. Certification exam administered on last day. State certificate fees are charged directly to each student upon successful completion of their certification exam.
In order that we may have adequate course materials available for each class, you must pre-register.
Registration Process for Full Course and Renewal Course
Pre-registration is required. Please click on the link below to print out the registration form. Indicate "Full Course" or "Renewal Course" for each students name. Fax or send completed form to the Illinois Food Retailers Association. All courses listed are currently available.
For Renewal Classes, each student must bring a copy of their current certificate. There is no grace period for the State Sanitation Certificate. If your Certificate is expired you must take the Full Course.
We encourage members to register as many employees as possible who work in the food preparation area.
Online Courses
We now offer the 15 hour full course and the 5 hour State Renewal Course online via your computer. This online training is offered in both English or Spanish. Once you have completed the 15 hour online course, you may then come into one of our eligible locations to take your state exam. There is no testing required for the 5 hour renewal course.
